"I had the most amazing time speaking with Jess. I never knew purchasing insurance could be so pleasant! I doubt I’ll be able to do the experience justice by describing it so let me just put it this way: If ever tragedy should strike and my car is totaled and I’m left in an unresponsive state, and I’m in a hospital bed still conscious (because that happens all the time, doctors will declare a patient in a vegetative state but they will retain full consciousness, I read it in an Internet forum), and my girlfriend Trisha is there upset and crying, but I know she’s just putting on a show because we’ve been having a rocky couple of months and she’s threatened to leave me dozens of time at this point, and she’s ground me down to such a fine paste that I lack the resolve just to tell her to leave, and she’s in the hospital room with me being comforted by that jerk Tommy, who I know has been trying to steal her from me and I also know that lately she has grown more fond of the notion, but the predicament is all too humiliating for me to have addressed openly, and Trisha turns around to fake cry into Tommy’s shoulder, and all the while he’s looking me dead in the eyes, because I know he reads the same Internet forums as me and knows that there’s still a chance I’m basically conscious, and he squeezes her tightly and winks at me and licks his lips, and I torture my vocal chords and my face muscles to yell “Knock it off Tommy! You’ve been doing this to me since the 6th grade!”, but the only word I can utter is “applesauce”, because that’s all I’m able to eat in this state physically speaking it’s all that I seem to know anymore, so Trisha fetches the nurse to get me a bowl of applesauce, which I’m too angry to eat because all I can think about is Tommy going home with my gal, who at this point I barely even like but it’s the principle of the matter. And also I’ve had to watch my parents slowly erode with each passing day as they behold me in this condition, and my dad knows that he should want to do everything in his power to keep me alive, but deep down he really wants to pull the plug because I’m a financial and emotional burden on him, and I honestly don’t blame him and it’s surprisingly easy for me to forgive him because he’s putting forth effort, as opposed to my mother whose eyes have been slowly consumed with hate and resentment towards me, reaching a crescendo one evening when she’s alone with me in the hospital room chilling me with here freezing cold glare, finally saying to me “just leave us already. I hate you, and I even think I’ve always hated you. Or at the very least you are my least favorite child, and your father won’t tell you because he’s a good man but I know he feels the same way. So why don’t you just put yourself and us out of our collective misery already,” and she’s perfectly comfortable saying this to my face because she doesn’t read the Internet forums, and she grabs a pillow and grasps it tightly in her lap while giving me a dead stare, but she puts it back quickly because the nurse has just come into the room with my evening applesauce, which on one hand I’m too distressed to eat right now, but on the other hand I haven’t eaten since my Noon applesauce and I’m really hungry because applesauce isn’t very filling, and also as far as hospital food goes the applesauce isn’t so bad, and maybe it could even temporarily soothe the negative feelings stemming from the predicament I’m currently in. Anyway, if any of this should ever befall me, I sincerely believe I’d be able to steel myself through it all if only I knew that Jess would be on the line with my friends and my family to tell them, “Everything is going to be okay, the car was fully insured.”"
